Hello,
I'm looking at a ds-8. The owner isn't helpful. I put new batteries in the camera. The light meter responds but the motor doesn't run. Is there anything I should be doing aside from pushing the trigger? It is set on 24 fps. The switch is set to AUTO. Thank you, this forum is a important resource for Super 8 filmmakers.

Make sure the batteries are well charged. Check the battery test. Check for corrosion on the battery terminals. Does the DS 8 have a remote?
Make sure you are not switching to remote.
Check to see if the gate is closed, the door is closed and that you do have the battery in the right way.
Otherwise it should fire up. If it does have a remote, see if it wll work with that.

Thanks rollemfilm. The film gate was not closed. It's running nicely now.
